Possums and robberies…

So Josh came down this week and stayed a few days. This is always a plus for us as we both love hanging with him :) A little backstory… Josh got all — and I mean all — of his gear stolen just a few months ago. Luckily, he had insurance so he was fine. However, this isn’t something one would choose to go through. I’m sure anyone who’s filed a claim knows that ;)

So the last night Josh was here, he almost left that night. He ended up staying the night and planned on heading out in the morning. That was until this happened…

Josh got all of his gear stolen… again!! Poor guy. Happened sometime in the middle of the night on our street. He looks mad in this picture, but Josh, being the happy go lucky guy we all love, took it in stride with laughs and smiles. I love when people can do stuff like that. So many people would huff and puff — sort of that “don’t talk to me right now!” attitude. Not Josh. One of the many reasons why I (and so many others) love the guy :)

——————–

Last night when we walked home, we noticed this little guy perched on our fence…

Hate away, but I absolutely love opossums. I’m a firm believer in the idea that if you can find beauty and be excited about the supposed “ugly” things in life, that which is generally accepted as “beautiful” is just that much sweeter.

It took about an hour for this guy to get down — which was tricky as we had to lock the dogs in the house so we didn’t have a little scuffle on our hands. Opossums can fend for themselves, but I wouldn’t want it getting hurt at all by Remmy. As of now, he’s still hiding (about 3 hours later) in a bush about 3 feet from the fence — on the inside of our yard, of course. I didn’t want him to get hurt, so I built a barricade around him that leads to a tree he can climb — but that Remmy and Trouble can’t get into. If you look hard enough, you’ll see that this little guy is as cute as anything out there :)

Pam - Many out there don't think of Opossums as cute...but I have always thought they were all that and more!! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I always say! I even think bats are cute! Especially the babies!! :DJanuary 29, 2010 - 8:41 am

Pam - btw...really feel for Josh! I can't even imagine it happening once... what a great attitude he has!!January 29, 2010 - 8:43 am

Daniel Ochoa - bummer dude. My bro just got his window smashed and camera stolen. Not a good feeling but he's the same way...takes everything in stride. What ISO and f-stop did you have to shoot at to get that possum shot. well captured!January 29, 2010 - 9:45 am

Anonymous - That is why I bring my gear indoors with me......too easy for thieves in a carJanuary 29, 2010 - 11:33 am

Erin Berry - Uggg... Bobby- I am starting to get alittle bit mad at you! First you start changing my outlook on animals. The other day I even did the unthinkable and let a dog jump up, put his paws on my shoulder and hug me (luckily no humping was involved). So many other things like that have happened lately. Normally I swerve to... miss hitting animals on the road, but opussoms in TX were the BEST things to hit. I have to admit that as awful as it sounds, I actually swerved to HIT them. Now you made me look closely and see how cute they are... what else are you going to make me like??? I don't know who I am anymore...January 29, 2010 - 12:16 pm

Curt O'Neil - Possum Possum
POSSUM!
Your end is the road!

(someone knows that right?)January 29, 2010 - 12:17 pm

Marissa Rodriguez - I feel so bad for Josh! That's terrible!January 29, 2010 - 1:27 pm

Nicole Dabbs - Bobby, I'm so glad that you protected this little guy from the dogs! Linds and I weren't so lucky when we ran over a possum in her little CRX in high school. We pulled over and both cried...sad times. Now she can say that although she ran over one, she saved another! Glad this guy made it out alive!January 29, 2010 - 2:14 pm

Bobby Earle - Not only that, Nicole... Just a few nights ago, Lindsay drove like an F-1 racer in order to NOT hit one! So she redeemed herself with that one for sure! :PJanuary 29, 2010 - 2:52 pm

Cindy Lowe - oh dude, that sucks! :( And yeah another good reminder that I should never leave my gear in the car!January 29, 2010 - 6:33 pm

Carrie - @Erin I don't understand how anyone could purposely hit an animal! It's disgusting and I know you're just one of many. It makes me very sad...January 29, 2010 - 8:35 pm

luke - Poor Josh :( I hope his insurance company look after him ... mine doesn't cover more than $10k of equipment if left in my car overnight. Can't say I blame them ... cars are a super-easy target, I hate leaving my gear in mine for more than a few minutes! Hopefully this isn't too much of a setback for him :(January 30, 2010 - 9:00 pm

ajira - Man that sucks for Josh. Hope he bounces back from this full throttle.

The only time a possum isn't cute is when it's frightened the wits out of me! In which case I don't really see it anyway as I strive to put as much distance between us as possible! LOL!February 1, 2010 - 7:44 am

JEREMY DAVIS - I need insurance!February 1, 2010 - 7:25 pm

Nick - Don't tell me he left his stuff in the car overnight??? You know robbers have lithium battery detectors, you can leave stuff in your car 5 minutes and they bust it out... it's sad to say and it's sad when it happens but some people learn after 1 robery, for some people it takes 2-3 times. I had my entire house robbed once and trust me, it wont happen again.February 4, 2010 - 2:25 pm
