We just got back from our first ultrasound. Wow. The thing I love about expecting a baby is that it just keeps building up and up. I’m nowhere near the realization of “I’m a daddy!” yet — it’s still hitting me — but days like this really continue the feeling that it’s happening soon.
I’ve never been one to force emotions — I don’t mind if it takes me a while to feel attached to my child, for example. I’ll let these things progress naturally. But I’m just so excited that all this is still happening! Every once in a while it feels like we’re hoping for this to happen. As if we’re currently trying to get pregnant… sort of like if you got a big break for a job you want — and now you’ve cut to the front of the line in the interview process. You feel so excited that you’re that much closer — but you don’t feel like the job is yours yet. I’ll go through stages like that. Almost as if we’re still waiting to find out for sure that we’re pregnant :P
Anyways, the ultrasound. This little baby is like the size of a bean! Even though there weren’t a ton of physical traits we could make out (like hands, feet, mouth, etc.), the one thing that hit us was seeing the heartbeat. Lindsay shed some tears of joy — I was just speechless. If you see Lindsay, she’s just a normal girl. She doesn’t really feel anything different. This makes it so easy to forget she’s pregnant. Seeing our little baby’s heart beating was such an awesome reminder that no one is playing a joke on us — this is the real thing. It really was a great day for us.

Is it twins??? Lindsay apparently has twins all over her family history. And I guess the older you get, the more likely twins become if you’re already genetically inclined to having twins. I would welcome twins with loving arms if we had/have them — don’t get me wrong. But let’s just say I’ll be thrilled relieved if it’s just one baby. Remember, as excited as we are about having a baby, we weren’t planning for one! So if we ended up with two when we weren’t even trying for one?! Needless to say, I rushed to my first question — “Is it to early to tell if there are or aren’t twins???” After looking around — no twins!!! Woohoo!!! Again, if it ends up there are twins and we just couldn’t see the other one hiding, we’ll love the living daylights out of the two of them — even if my wallet doesn’t :P
We also found out that our due date is October 12 and that the baby isn’t as far along as we thought (7 weeks on Wednesday of this week). Anyways, we are soooooooooooooooo freaking excited to watch this baby grow inside of Lindsay, constantly talk about baby names, go back and forth between if it’ll be a boy or a girl… we’re just enjoying the whole process :)

Lindsay getting jellied — about to lose her ultrasoundinity.
