Michael and Onnie’s wedding was such a beautiful, sweet event. And it never hurts to have a dream team of wedding specialists taking off and running with your ideas. Seriously, these two chose incredible people to ensure a stunning day :)
So let’s get to it!

Side By Side Cinema just might be my favorite cinematographers I’ve worked with. Ironically, they happen to live in Escondido (where I was born, raised, and moved back to after getting married) and we we found out later through facebook that we have tons of mutual friends. Plainly put, working with people who aren’t friendly, charitable, and don’t roll with the punches simply isn’t optimal for an awesome wedding, IMO. Fortunately, Danielle and Jared were a joy to be around and our immediate “hit-it-off-ness” translated into us being able to work together as a team — somewhat unique for photographers and cinematographers. Feel free to check out their beautiful interpretation of the day here :)

The following images show why LaVonne at Adorations is San Diego’s favorite florist. We had some of the harshest light I’ve ever experienced during the time we had to shoot the ceremony site — and her work still shines through. It’s funny how often photographers are considered the primary artists at weddings when I feel like I’m simply pressing a button at the right time while artists like LaVonne are making it all happen from scratch like an incredible painter, or something.

Rabbi Ian. This was my first time shooting a wedding Rabbi Ian, but I have a hunch that I’m not the first to feel this way about his work. My career has been full time weddings for the last 7 years. I’ve shot in all sorts of countries on all sorts of continents and have never been so enveloped and almost forced into the ceremony — as if I was experiencing a film. I genuinely didn’t want it to end. This man has a wonderful gift with guiding people through their own ceremony in a way I simply had never experienced. If I were to marry Lindsay again, Rabbi Ian would stand top of the list. If you’re getting married, his ceremonies are simply wonderful.

And it’s impossible to end this wedding post without mentioning how lovely and sweet Susanne at Crown Weddings just so happens to be. She’s incredibly kind and caring — and I’m always so thrilled to be able to work with people like her whenever the bride and groom have such incredible taste in people :)

Julia + Ariel + a whole mess of Dominicans + NYC = more than I could have ever expected :)
I run out of words when I try and think about the party that took place at this wedding. Julia and Ariel showed me what a wedding in NYC can be like when half the D.R. shows up. I was about as sick as it gets with my ulcerative colitis (which apparently looks like it’s Crohn’s disease after my latest colonoscopy and endoscopy) — but just like it always does, my disease takes a back seat as my excitement to shoot a couple I love so much covers any pain/nausea I’m feeling. They’re crazy fun party was probably the only day in September where I forgot about my disease. Priceless for me.
Ariel and Julia, you and your entire crew (once again) made me feel so welcomed and included. It’s no wonder these photos tell a great story. I truly hope you guys enjoy every one of these ;)

This is Gabriel who makes up half of GT Modern Creations (the other half being his insanely sweet wife, Caritza). Some of the kindest cinematographers around :)

Hands down, without question my favorite detail I’ve ever seen at a wedding :)

I was lucky enough to have my pal, Nick Nishizaka, an awesome NYC wedding photographer, back me up in Lindsay’s absence. Here he is allowing me to use him like a test dummy like I normally do with Lindsay :P
Back to these two…

My favorite NYPD couple! I met Evey and Alan back at Astami and Chan’s Bali wedding (which is how I met Julia and Ariel). I enjoy going out to NYC just so I can spend more time with this crew. They’ve become true friends of mine :)

Howard and Emily. These two. I knew I was going to have a good time when I was included on some group emails and, amongst plenty of other hilarious things, the bridal party insisted on Howie wearing a painted tux/banana hammock combo :)
**Photographers** This set was edited in Lightroom with VSCO film. It was also my first wedding using VSCO keys. It’s almost impossible to explain why something as simple (sounding) as shortcuts with VSCO film in LR would be so useful. I assumed it wouldn’t be that useful, to be honest.
I was really, really wrong.
And HUGE thanks to Josh Newton for keeping me company on yet another trip. He’s my go to guy for destination weddings and I’m always hyped when he’s able to join me :)

I have a really odd auto-immune disease (ulcerative colitis, to be exact) and it has completely demolished my ability to tolerate heat for extended periods of time. To the point to where it can cause me to bleed internally, as it happens. It was SUPER hot and humid so desperate times… :)

I walked out into the hallway to head to the restroom. Passed the following adorable interaction along the way. I didn’t stage a lick of it :)

Sorry for the crazy delay! I got hit with some crazy health issues the last month, or so (lost 30lbs!). Hopefully I’ll update the blog about all of that soon. Now, to the good stuff…
Natalie and David. Natalie has been telling me how she’s going to hire me the second she gets engaged for years ever since I shot Mitch and Kelly’s (her best friend) wedding a few years back. I love this whole group of people and am thrilled to have photographed this circle of friends all over the place (I’ve shot this group of several friends and couples a few times in OC, SD, SF, and Thailand).
I could ramble and ramble, but here are the photos instead. Wedding was at the lovely Bel Palazzo property :)

Shot Natalie and David’s wedding a couple weeks back. Love these two. Check back next week for the full post — but here’s a few quick favs…

Me and Natalie :)

Fun with mirrors.

The Bel Palazzo in San Juan Capistrano is such a beautiful venue. I loved the ceremony set up.

Good wedding day hugs are one of my favorite things to photograph.

First dancin' :)
Full post next week :)
