Nashville family portraits: The Sulcer’s

Follow me on Twitter / Be my friend on Facebook

I’ve had so much fun shooting portrait sessions out here in Nashville. Blogs make the world smaller and the Sulcer’s are proof of that. My mother-in-law works with Kari (mom in the photos) and told Jimmy (dad in the photos) about me a while back (since he’s a photographer, as well). Well he’s been reading the blog since then, invited us over for dinner a couple weeks ago, and grabbed the last Nashville session I was going to be shooting. Stories like these are one of the main reasons I love blogging :)

Anyways, as you’ll see from the photos, we got to know their daughters REAL well when we had dinner with the whole family a week before the portrait session. So the shoot was basically Ava and Dylan hour — which I instantly found out meant racing, wrestling, them shooting photos with my camera, more racing, more wrestling, and then negotiating terms with me so we could race, wrestle, and shoot with my camera some more. If you’re not a photographer, this might sound hectic. But if you are a photographer, you’ll know that this means awesome photos. The two oldest girls were just hamming it up over and over for me — photographers can’t ask for more :)

Funny story here. I was shooting and said “ahhh… come on car…” waiting for a car to move behind my subject’s head. Well, my subject’s name is “Kari” (pronounced “Car-ee” and not “care-ee”) :P Needless to say, her response was, “I don’t know what I’m supposed to do???” and my immediate thought was “what’s she talking about, she’s doing great!” Then it hit me that saying “ahhh… come on car…” sounds an awful lot like grumbling “ahhh… come on Kari…” We had a good laugh over it :)

On your mark. Get set. Go!

Hands down, my favorite image from the day. Her expression is priceless. If someone offered me a million bucks, I doubt I could duplicate this face :)

Here’s me being attacked by a miniature mob.

And here’s how Jimmy helps me :P

This is the no smile until I say ‘bananas!’ game :)

Second favorite image from the day. It’s just so sweet.

I might start shooting more portraits at home. I’ve been having a lot of fun doing them out here :)

Nashville Portrait Photographer: The Arms

Follow me on Twitter / Be my friend on Facebook

We shot our friends, the Arms, when they visited from Australia :)

The model, Josiah, getting into character…

Our friend, Cindy, came with us. Always so much fun hanging out and shooting with her :)

Luke and Michelle (and Joey ;), we had such a blast hanging out while you were here in the States! Fingers crossed we can get back out to Oz to see you guys soon.

——————–

I’ve got time for ONE more portrait session while we’re out here in Nashville. So if you’re wanting some Bobby Earle images while I’m in your neck of the woods, now’s the time! I’ve got a ripping Nashville discount. $500 for the session AND your disc of negatives (either a couple session or a family session). Here at home, I charge $1000 for the disc of negatives alone, so I’m trying to show some southern hospitality in hopes of fitting in with the locals :) But like I said, only one more…

I need your help to help…

Follow me on Twitter / Be my friend on Facebook

I tried this a couple years ago, but my blog had very few readers back then. I’m hoping that since there are more of you now, that you can help me here.

As I’m about to be a dad, I can’t help but begin to wrestle with worrying about something bad happening to my son. No parent wants to go through that — but it most certainly does happen. So here’s what I want to do.

When I have a free month, I’d love to donate my time and photography to families who have a terminally ill child. I know it sounds a bit odd just saying it like that, but I don’t know a better way to word it. The reason? First, it’s something I can do. We all should be looking for ways where we can use our craft to help others — and I know I don’t do this nearly enough. So this is something that I can do. Second, my hunch is that there are an insane amount of medical bills for families in these situations — and that everything that isn’t absolutely necessary gets put on the back burner. I’d love to help a few families out with that problem. Third, many of you that read the blog are fellow photographers. I’m hoping that in my photographing these families, that seeing the photos may inspire some of you to do something similar. Just to start thinking about how you, as a photographer, can help out your fellow man. For no reason other than helping.

So if any of you know a family in the San Diego area that I could help in this regard, please let me know. I’ll be looking for a family for the month of April. Then I’ll go on from there — doing it whenever my month allows it. The family will receive a complimentary family session and a disc of all their finished images. Thank you guys for your help!

The Mayers: Family (sort of) shoot

Follow me on Twitter / Be my friend on Facebook

The Mayer’s. Where do I begin. Kelli is super sweet and is obsessed with all things Disney (no really, like twice as obsessed as the friend that you know who is obsessed with Disney that you are probably thinking about). Dylan is an awesome photographer and possibly the nicest guy you’ll ever meet. We love being friends with these two.

Last year, around the same time we got Trouble, Kelli and Dylan got a little amazing dog named Buzz. After a series of unfortunate events, they lost Buzz to a crazy accident. It was a tough time for them, but they realized that the answer wasn’t to never get another bulldog — but to do just the opposite. So they went and got Dug! Dug is an amazing little piece of work. When they first got him, he was so cute that he looked like a little cartoon character, or something ;)

Anyways, being a photographer, Dylan usually doesn’t have many photos with him in them. I was thrilled when they asked if I would shoot them :)

I swear, this is exactly what Dylan is like :)

Kelli.

Normal Dylan.

Dug fell asleep upside down :)

Favorite one.

Poway Family Photography

We had so much fun shooting Brett and Ronit’s family at Old Poway Park.. Lindsay and I love being around other languages and their entire family speaks fluent Hebrew — such an awesome sounding language. Not to mention they’re working on getting us a wedding out in Israel one of these days… :P

I think this is my favorite from the day :)

Really like this one…

While the kids played on the playground, we grabbed one of mom and dad :)

Love this one…

I usually don’t have time for too many family portraits throughout the year — but I’m always happy when I do them :)
