I’ve been learning important lessons with my first child. One of which being not to wait. When your kid does something that you want to remember, don’t be lazy and wait for the next time. I’ve missed a couple of awesome things that Clive grew out of because I figured I’d shoot or film it later. Big mistake. Some little things they’ll just never do again.

Case in point, Clive fake coughing on command. I ALMOST didn’t video it. I figured I’d do it next time. Well, as much as he was doing it, there wasn’t ever a next time. I got really lucky. For some reason, I figured “I should video this right now just in case…” And I’m glad I did. This might be a stupid thing that only looks cute to a parent, but for whatever reason I think this is one of the cutest/funniest things I’ve ever seen.

So I just bought the Canon Canoscan 9000F. I started last night scanning some old photos. Here’s a couple I’ve found so far…

January 4th, 2003. I’m 20 years old. Lindsay is 21. I’ve only scanned 8 images from the actual ceremony — I’m excited to get through the rest :D

Garrett boning out a backside flip. This is sometime in 2004, I bet. It looks like there’s texture photoshopped in… but that’s only because the negatives were damaged :)

So far, it seems like an awesome purchase. It was $175 after tax and shipping on Amazon. And I would have had to pay WAAAAY more if I wanted to have some lab do it for me. Of course, they would have done a better job, I imagine, but I figured I’d take the gamble and if the scanner sucks really bad, just sell it. I’m only a few negatives in, but I’ve scanned both 35mm negatives and slides and it seems more than decent. I’ll probably do a more lengthy review in a couple weeks once I’m finished :)

I posted this on my instagram yesterday, which then went to my twitter and facebook. My only response from almost everyone on all three fronts was “Lindsay looks normal and you look like a little kid standing on a phone book for a picture!” I thought I looked totally normal :P

She’s 22 and I’m 21. This is January of 2004. For our 1 year anniversary, we backpacked all over Europe from the end of December to the middle of March. It was one of the best experiences of my life — and without that trip I would have never become a photographer :)

As cute as Lindsay looked at 22, she’s even better looking now. Which is crazy since she just had a baby and is a few months shy of 30!

So after a terrible Wednesday and Thursday (which were both already following a fairly difficult couple of weeks)., Clive finally had a breakthrough! Yesterday (Thursday) he screamed in serious pain again. But this time, thanks to one of my awesome commenter’s advice on liquid glycerin, he finally got out what he had been trying to get out.

It was insane.

Keep in mind, we have had our 7 month old for… well… 7 months :) And much of that has seen him with trouble pooping. We’ve had him go over a week without poop. He’s strained and been in pain before. But nothing like this.

Without getting to graphic, he pooped out three giant stone poops. Each was just as difficult as the one preceding it. And this is graphic, but we both watched (in anguish) his poor little bottom open so much wider than we could have imagined. It looked extremely similar to childbirth. He was screaming with each one — it was painful to watch — but we were just so relieved that he was actually passing something.

After three big ones, we could tell there were still more. But he clearly didn’t want to try anymore. We gave him a break.

He slept probably double the amount he normally sleeps in the day. I think he was simply worn out.

Later that evening, he was pushing again. His face wasn’t turning red. It was turning purple. We grabbed another liquid suppository and in about 30 seconds he cried, screamed, and pushed out another rock. Then the rest started coming out much, much easier. The next just looked like an adult amount of poop. He was so incredibly backed up. Looking at everything, I just didn’t see how all of that was fitting inside of him.

The good news is that toward the end, his poop started looking normal. It wasn’t rock hard. So I think he’ll be sitting much more easily now. He was just backed up for a while. Totally blocked.

Let’s see if I can blog about something other than poop next week, huh? :)

I think this is how sweet life is after being so backed up and finally getting relief :)
