Lindsay outdid herself :P

Follow me on Twitter / Be my friend on Facebook

I’m out in the South African bush looking for all sorts of wild animals right now — but this happened the day I left and I had to share it!

So Lindsay has a past. An ugly one, in fact. She throws things away. That probably doesn’t sound bad, but let me explain. She cleans things — but doesn’t pay attention at all! She has thrown away and “hid” things over the years — even throwing away (realizing it after the trash man came) my wallet with a few hundred dollars inside.

So I bought some new CF cards to replace my stolen ones. I’m looking all over the place for a missing one that I can’t find anywhere. After looking all day, I wonder to myself, “could Lindsay have thrown a brand new, unopened 32GB compact flash card?” So I ask. She insists that she wouldn’t have done that and goes off looking. After not finding it for some time, I see it in her eyes. Even she’s afraid she did it. Now this isn’t that big of a deal — but it’s just bragging rights for me to rub it in :P We have two large bins for trash that are literally overflowing. We figure we’ll go through them in the morning.

We throw the first bin all over the yard. Nothing yet. Lindsay is almost in the clear (at this point, she’d rather we had lost it instead of finding it in the trash ;). The second one?? Halfway through — nada. Keep in mind that this is the the same trash can we throw our two LARGE dogs’ poop piles in — so tons of fun for me :) At the very bottom? Take a guess…

I just looked at her with an arrogant smirk and she knew right away :)

Now Lindsay puts up with way worse having to be married to a total slob like myself, and she’s the easiest person to live with out there — so I figure her throwing away important things every once and a while is nothing to complain about ;)

Bobby

p.s. I’m missing you (Lindsay) like crazy!!!

Hope everyone’s excited for the weekend! As you read this, we should be walking around the bush with trackers — trying to find wild animals on foot! One of the best experiences on the planet, in my opinion.

Olifants bush walk
This is me and Lindsay walking around looking for elephants last year with our trackers, John and Vussi. We just walked away from a group of hippo — maybe 40 feet away from us. Talk about an incredible rush!!!

Have a good weekend everyone! Lindsay, I miss you and can’t stop thinking about you. Love you girl ;)

Leaving the country again

Follow me on Twitter / Be my friend on Facebook

I love traveling — but I totally feel like I just got home from our time in China! Today I fly out to South Africa again. South Africa is my “heaven on earth”. If I could choose a place to take my last breathes, it’d be at the Olifants lodge overlooking the Olifants river — it almost feels like that is where all life began.

Animals. There’s something about animals in the wild that makes me love life. This last month I’ve been noticing (more than ever) the red tail hawks, woodpeckers, opossums, owls, blue belly’s (lizard), and just about every other wild animal we have locally — and almost imagining I’m back in the bush. There’s something about being in your own car, out in the wild, and finding African elephant (so much more intimidating than Asian elephant), lion, zebra, and so on. Getting charged by a bull elephant is an out of this world experience!

The bummer is that this is Lindsay’s first time sitting out since I did China back in 2006 without her (our first and only trip apart as a married couple). We definitely prefer traveling together, but with the malaria pills and everything, not to mention her maternal instincts that brought us home early from China so she could be with the dogs, Lindsay strongly preferred staying home. So I’m going to miss the crap out of her, but I’m sure we’ll both be fine. We both love the fact that Lindsay will have two big (and super sweet) dogs that we are both way too obsessed with to sleep with at night :) And China is to Lindsay what South Africa is to me, so she’s actually pretty content right now (in regard to traveling).

The awesome thing is that I’ll be taking my mom, dad, brother-in-law (also one of my best friends from high school), and Garrett (another best friend). I think this could end up being one for the history books, so I can’t wait to land in South Africa, get in our car, drive like 5 or 6 hours, and then arrive at the Kruger!!! 7000 square miles of nature, wild animals, and me in the middle of it all :)

I didn’t have internet last time, so blogging will probably be VERY limited until I get back (couple weeks).

Why we love Chick-fil-a

Follow me on Twitter / Be my friend on Facebook

Chick-fil-a (CFA, as I usually type it out)… where do I start? If you follow me on Twitter or are my friend on Facebook, you probably know of my obsession with this place. I can easily eat here for a week straight. Their waffle fries are my favorite fries on earth and their chocolate shake is absolutely insane. And their sauce selection?! It’s always a toss up between a bbq and ranch combo or their polynesian sauce. Oh, and you know how McDonalds and Burger King nitpick with their sauces? Well not CFA. You want sauces? They give ‘em to you… and you don’t need to order nuggets to get them!

But far more than the food, it’s the people that run CFA that keep us coming back. I’ve heard stories about how there was a year a long time ago where Truett Cathy (the founder/inventor of the chicken sandwich) had to cut people’s salary and fire people in order to stay afloat. What did he do? He decided he wouldn’t take a salary that year and used it to keep everyone on. Yeah, that’s how CFA rolls.

Over the years, at Chick-fil-a San Marcos, we’ve become friends with so many of the people working there. We announced our pregnancy, announced that we’re having boy, have had countless birthday dinners… it really feels like a second kitchen/dining room for us. We just love everyone that works there! I’m always trying to convince Ali (one of our CFA friends) that they CFA needs to have some sort of employee contest and 12 winners get to do an RPTE with us :D

Chick-fil-a San Marcos

Well last Friday, when we had our pregnancy scare, April and Jordan (who run the San Marcos restaurant) wanted to do something for us the following day. They surprised us by coming to our house (which is in a different city, mind you) and bringing tons of food! They figured that way Lindsay could stay off her feet all day, rest, and have good food. We’re talking a gallon of sweet tea, tons of fries, nuggets, sandwiches, salads, and, oh yes, ice dream — try their ice dream and you’ll realize why it isn’t called “ice cream” ;)

The moral of the story? There’s two successful ways to run a business. One is being kind to your customers and treating them nicely because it makes good business sense. The nicer you are, the better experience people will have, right? The other is being kind to your customers and treating them nicely because you really love people, you enjoy seeing them smile, and it feels good when you know they had a good experience. The former is a good way to turn a profit, I’m sure. However, the latter is by far the the way to do it. It’s so rare to find a company that does this from the top to the bottom. Chick-fil-a is one of those companies :)

To all our friends at Chick-fil-a San Marcos… we love you guys!

Candice & Daniel {The Beautiful Mess} - Chick-fil-A is HUGE here in the south. But they still...by far...have THE best customer service/attitudes/philosophy out there. PLUS they are closed on Sunday's to respect people's right to worship. Yes...it's a company built so well and so counter-culturally...that it's difficult for people to understand how they can make it. BUT--that's just why they make it. Okay....off my soap box. Ali Bonano - People always wonder why we all love working there so much. This serves as a perfect explanation! The only thing better than being able to be apart of our team, our little CFA family, is having the opportunity to serve! Especially being able to serve people like you, Lindsay, and Garrett! I'm not going to lie, this kind of made me cry a little! How blessed am I?! We all love you guys! Oh and I'm ready to go on a trip with you! I say you just take me! ;)May 26, 2010 - 12:12 pm

Pregnancy: She feels fat

Follow me on Twitter / Be my friend on Facebook

The other night, just before she went to bed, Lindsay hugged me and started crying. Apart from having a baby bump, and the occasional cry on this topic, you’d never know she was pregnant (I have it pretty easy!). Well she told me that she felt “really fat today“. Now since Lindsay is a woman, to say that she has body issues is almost redundant. I’m sure that the media plays a role, but I really think this is a pretty natural feeling. Jealousy is something we all deal with and that’s probably the root of a lot of this (and don’t think I’m implying us men don’t have our jealousies — because we certainly do).

I’ve always thought the key to dealing with body issues is changing what you reasonably can and accepting the rest with style. Lindsay has always enjoyed the gym and loves running (I’ll never understand the latter one). She eats so well (she turns down desserts and waffle fries from Chick-fil-a for a side salad like nothing). Yet she still wishes this body part did that better or that body part went in this direction, and so on, and so on…

Just before she laid down, she added “I just feel like I’m expanding…” I simply added “you are!” That sounds mean, but I meant it. I explained that she is — but not because she’s lazy or not looking after herself… but because she’s pregnant! She’s so good with her plan with our doctor about her health — being exactly where the doctor has mapped out for her to be at this point. So however she ends up thinking she looks? Well it’s just all natural baby making looks :) I mean, if she were sitting on the couch all day and having chocolate sundaes for lunch, I could make a suggestion of changing up her health habits, or something, you know? But she’s doing everything right!

So today I thought it might help if I stated publicly that Lindsay is just plain gorgeous. I’m talking knockout status. People are always commenting here about how stunning she is, and I most certainly agree. In fact, the only thing I’d add is that watching her body change while it’s cooking up the boy has made her even more beautiful to me.

Lindsay Earle
Pregnant and killing it in Beijing, China.

It’s so funny because pregnancy has Lindsay feeling sexier than Angelina Jolie or Megan Fox at times (like I said before, she stares at her new cleavage more than I do!) and straight fat and ugly at other times. I’m actually fascinated by the hormones — almost wishing I could be injected with them so I could have an idea where she’s coming from :)

But like I said a moment go, Lindsay, I think you’re more beautiful than ever. And you know that I’m not the patronizing type — so when you feel like this again, just remember that despite what your hormones are telling you, pregnancy has made you even hotter. Oh… and you are by far the easiest/best/funnest pregnant woman to live with ever (which then makes you even hotter). Thanks for cooking up my baby ;)

Aaron Hoops - tell her to swim instead of running....its a good workout and apparently....and i have no idea how they know this....but the sound of the water is comforting to the baby or something.May 25, 2010 - 12:00 am

Jessica Wright- Monnich - I remember those days, That is soooo awesome that she is keeping to the plan your DR. set up. Encourage her to keep it up! I put on 70 lbs and still haven't gotten it off, well found out I had a thyroid prob. which we are trying to stabalize as well as an IUC which aids in weight gain. luckily just keeping it level but not loosing. Anyhoo continue to tell her she looks amazing that alllllllwwwwwayyyys helps :) Then you will get the joy of something else on her body getting big as her milk comes in ;). BUT warning when she actually has the baby they will be HUGE but they will HURT like HECK so NO touchy touchy :)May 25, 2010 - 12:00 am

Karen Doll - I hope she realizes she is not getting FAT she is being PREGNANT. She is an amazing lady and I was surprised to hear that even someone as beautiful, thin, and together as Lyndsey suffers from body image issues from time to time. She is absolutely stunning ... if i had a quarter of her beauty i would feel blessed. : )May 25, 2010 - 12:00 am

Cindy Lowe - Did her pain go away? I sure hope so! :) Have been praying for her!May 25, 2010 - 12:57 am

Daniël Cronk - hands down funniest phrase: "... while it's cooking up the boy." LMAO... and on a side note, i know where Lindsay is coming from (minus the pregnancy), society is what causes many of those issues.May 25, 2010 - 4:27 am

Julie Mays Frye - Lindsay, Because you are so fit you will lose the baby weight and probably quickly. With my first I lost more than I gained BEFORE I left the hospital. Well, 3 babies more is a different story. But my goodness! You are gorgeous! Show that bump off (and the cleavage). And you have a very sweet husband. May 25, 2010 - 4:28 am

Amber Griffith Gould - It's all worth it in the end! May 25, 2010 - 5:08 am

Andrea Simcheck - Wow Bobby you are so sweet! Lindsay you are the cutest pregnant woman ever! You look so good! I hope I can look that good when I have kiddies :)May 25, 2010 - 5:49 am

Laurel DePriest Pankratz - I wish body issues weren't a part of pregnancy, but if you're used to being small and fit, it just sucks to be out of control of your body. But the best thing I did while pregnant was to work out a lot. Not because it made me look any different, but because it made me feel better. In turn, it made my delivery and recovery SO much easier. May 25, 2010 - 6:40 am

Ginger Murray - You look here, Lindsey-- you are honestly gorgeous and still so thin. You will never be a larger person other than when your tummy gets bigger with another person inside. I hope when I'm preggo one day, I can look like you;)May 25, 2010 - 12:15 am

Nick Radford - You both are awesome. :)May 25, 2010 - 12:17 am

Gilda Adler - ok, first of all, the word fat should disappear from any conversations! The word of the day is RIPE! this is coming from a girl who put on 45 pounds with each child!!!!second of all, pregnancy is a time where we just enjoy every second and yes, everything that is on the plate! it is not a time when we count calories! I enjoyed my triple chocolate lava cake first time and the peanut butter and chocolate icecream the second time (double scoops) and I like to joke that my kids came out happy because of that!third of all, a young and fit woman is gonna lose the pounds very fast is she really wants (breastfeeding really helps!). just get her the baby jogger and let her go (I could not run, but boy I was walking miles and miles with the baby every single day) A month later I was getting in my skinny jeans (yeah a little tighter, but almost the way I was before)last of all, it does help to hear our hubbies tell us we're beautiful, but not every day, then we get annoyed (especially if you go on a diet). She IS beautiful! May 25, 2010 - 7:32 am

Jen Luciano - Oh Lindsay, you truly are beautiful & being pregnant has only enhanced that. Listen to Bobby & ignore the rest of the world & all its lies to the best of your ability. May 25, 2010 - 7:44 am

Jessica Wright- Monnich - AMEN your wifey is TOTALLY GORGEOUS! :)May 25, 2010 - 11:06 am

jamie delaine - Oh Lindsay. It's always so amazing to me that every woman truly does deal with body issues. I'm not sure why, but somehow we always assume we are alone in this. I've always thought you to be the most stunning, amazing woman. Seriously! One of the most beautiful people I know--without a doubt.May 25, 2010 - 9:17 am

Tim Sarquis - Dude...it's like we're living the same life! You're saying all the right things and it helps, trust me. I say the exact same thing to my beautiful pregnant wife (and I mean it!) and it really helps her. True, there are going to be times where no matter what you say its not going to help. But just being there to listen to her and to sympathize with her, will make all the difference!May 25, 2010 - 11:23 am

ajira - Oh Lindsay, you're gorgeous! And I hear you. It's bewildering to see your body change so rapidly and be taken over by this little being. I think it's training for when the little one arrives out here in the atmosphere. Because they do take over your heart, your mind, your life, your house... LOL. Thank goodness they're so adorable and buddha like- just bursting with love, compassion and serenity. Mostly. On the serenity part I mean. Anyway, just wanted to say- trust yourself, trust your body (look at what you're creating!) and trust your baby. Secondly, breastfeeding and running after that baby once he's out here will get you fit again. No doubt. And if you give birth naturally, you'll be up and at 'em in no time. Everything about pregnancy and birth is so streamlined to support the next aspect of it, it's breathtaking. There are SO many resources out there to learn from. If you want some recs, holla!May 28, 2010 - 1:17 am
