RPTE China: day 3 (and day 2 cont…)

Follow me on Twitter / Be my friend on Facebook

Another awesome day today. And another “I need more time to blog properly” blog post! I’ll do my best but I have to get to bed ASAP as we’re doing a pretty gnarly Great Wall hike tomorrow :) Here’s the rest from yesterday…

…and here’s today’s :)

Heading out in the morning.

If a picture could ever describe anyone, this would describe Amy Martin.

We started walking through some Hutongs and this Chinese man (watching us on the bike) insisted we use the local exercise equipment :)

We went to a local park where the Chinese meet in groups for community activities like singing, dancing, card games, etc. My favorite people watching place in the world. Amy got invited to dance :)

We’re going to the Great Wall next!!!

RPTE China: day two

Follow me on Twitter / Be my friend on Facebook

So we are about to head out for day two right now — but I wanted to blog some photos real fast! I wish I had time to give more of a back story, but I just don’t right now. Oh well…

Anyways, we started out heading outside of Beijing — about an hour, or so — to a Eunich cemetary. Then we made our way further to one of the best temples in the Beijing area (awesome because it’s so far so NO ONE is there). Finally, we drove a couple hours into the mountains to this old, tiny stone village. It was amazing. All along the way, we ate deelish food (the benefits of being in China).

We’re only a day in and this trip has been amazing!!!

Emily - This last picture seriously looks like a miniature village, like handmade hills and houses. It doesn't even look real. What a visual paradigm. Do you see what I'm saying?!I've only experienced the same miniature world thing a couple of times on acid (a very long time ago.)April 29, 2010 - 8:22 pm

julie frye - That's one happy buddha!May 7, 2010 - 5:30 am

RPTE China: day one

Follow me on Twitter / Be my friend on Facebook

I am SOOOOO excited to be on another RPTE!!! If you followed the last RPTE in Thailand and Cambodia, most of these people will look familiar to you. When we got back from the SE Asia, the entire group (all of which had never known each other before) had gotten so close that they wanted to go on another RPTE as quickly as possible! So China was the option thrown out there, and they signed on to the idea :)

There were two more coming but last minute problems arose :( Dane got a new job a couple weeks ago that had him have to cancel his ticket and Josh had a wedding that threw a wrench in his place ticket :( They are missed… but we’re just going to force ourselves to have a good time without them :P

———-

We flew over to Beijing with just the two of us. We love flying in groups — but it’s also fun when it’s just us. I think we tend to sleep more since there are less people to entertain my talkative face?

Lindsay reading in Seoul, Korea as we wait for our connection to Beijing.

Getting into Beijing is always amazing. This is our favorite city in the whole world — so it’s just so much fun to get out of the airport and go 0-60 with a Beijing taxi (they’re notorious for knowing ZERO amounts of English).

Most everyone (besides Katie — who’s flight got in later that night) had arrived by dinner, so we took them to one of my favorite “hole in the wall” Chinese joints. The menu used to be a few Chinese characters written on paper with numbers next to them — but they’ve moved up in the world since last year and now have menus!

Today we’re taking off to a little village a few hours outside of Beijing — should be awesome. I am so extremely happy not only to be back on another RPTE, but that the last one made such a strong set of friendships. China is awesome, but I’m not even close to lying when I say that I’d rather be around this group and in Escondido, California than on our own in China. Making new friends is awesome. Keeping up with them is even better :)
